Fire-Bearers’, is the much anticipated climatic conclusion to the intriguing Z-Rod epic set in 6th century Scotland. Alongside the increasingly divergent lives of the two main protagonists are the well-crafted characters who shape the outcomes of momentous events. We are brought to the brink, identifying with their experiences of strife and war, faith and heartfelt longings, wondering if they will succeed in their goals. Can the many obstacles to love be removed for the characters who briefly held hands at the very beginning of the trilogy? Does King Brude come to acknowledge a greater King? Can a treacherous cousin ever be forgiven? And what of the prophecy that the humble hero will ‘return east with great peace?

Martin Haworth worked in community and church development with an Iron-age Filipino tribe, providing an in depth understanding of pagan belief practices. Under his own business, ‘Roaming Scotland’, he now helps others connect with Scotland’s landscapes and ancient history, and leads Celtic Christian retreats. The Z-Rod trilogy has arisen from the fusion of these experiences and interests.
